MONIKA WEISS-SUSTENAZO: Lamenting Voices, Lamenting Images
Monika Weiss, an internationally celebrated New York based artist, records and composes sound in her videos from testimonies, recitations, and musicall instruments, including her own piano improvisations.  Music, a principal element in Sustenazo (Lament II) merges diverse narratives together into polypphonic compositions.  Weiss' transdisciplinary approach investigates realtionships between body and history, and evokes ancient rituals of lamentation.  Her current work considers aspects of public memory and amenesia as reflected within the physical and political space of a City.
